Porifera

Animal Diversity Web's article, "Porifera Sponges", introduces sponges in an interesting, easy-to-understand article. The article explains how sponges reproduce, how water passes through them, what habitats they are found in, and how they work. I found it interesting how they can reproduce both sexually and asexually, based off of their needs as an individual. Also, it is interesting how they contain toxic substances as means of self defense. These toxic substances have been found to be helpful in making some pharmaceuticals which is kind of cool and interesting and I would like to learn more about that and learn which sponge chemicals are used in what pharmaceuticals
