What is a Platyhelminthe?

The article, Flatworm by James Smyth, sheds light on the topic of Platyhelminthes, also known as flatworms. Flatworms are the one of most primitive invertebrates in the world. Platyhelminthes cover wide range of species, almost 20,000. Nearly eighty percent of all flatworms are parasites, the other twenty percent are free living. Flatworms are bilaterally symmetrical, meaning that both sides of the body are similar. The phylum that the patyhelmith is in consists of four classes, Trematoda, Cestoda, Turbellaria, and Monogenea. Platyhelminthes cover  wide range of species, nearly 20,000.

I found this site very informing about paltyhelminthes and it helped quite a bit with research.

  1. I Thought that it was interesting that nearly 80 percent of flatworms are parasites.
