The Emperor Scorpian
The Emperor Scorpion can be found in Africa, including places like Benin, Ghana, Togo and many more. It lives in mainly tropical forests and savannas. The largest of scorpions, but not the longest, the emperor scorpion (Pandinus imperator) has a dark body ranging from dark blue/green through brown to black. The large pincers are blackish-red and have a granular texture.
The Emperor Scorpion was added to Appendix II of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES) due to concerns over the level of international trade in the species, and the potential effects on its populations. The Emperor Scorpion's populations is being threatened for many years due to the rising of deforestation.

Wow! What a neat find! This post really gets me thinking about how fascinating scorpions really are. I mean look at that guy! and your description! So cool! But it's a shame that deforestation is killing the population. I read somewhere online that so many species are going extinct because we keep destroying their forest homes! I think we need to take action through legislation to save these guys and their homes, as well as all the other endangered species out there. What about you?
ReplyDeleteSo interesting! I never knew that scorpions could live in tropical forests! Have you heard that most smaller scorpions are more venomous than the large ones?
ReplyDeleteI would not like to encounter that bad boy! It's really a shame that humans are effecting the population of these creatures. I wonder if its color is an adaptation? Maybe it lives in the dark regions of the forest.
